Did you know that Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass has gone International? I’ve been posting a lot on Facebook, sharing details about my book, introducing the second book in the Sarafina series (it will be coming out soon), and chatting with fans! What a great facilitator Facebook is to communicate and share details about my writing, funny events that happen along the way, and of course … lots of pictures.

Of course, I really don’t need thirteen reasons to meet Ellen DeGeneres — I really only need one:  she’s AWESOME!  And I hope I don’t need thirteen reasons to remind anyone else that a limited number of special numbered and signed copies of Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass is available (only 100 books total).  Some have already been sold so the number available is decreasing.

It goes without saying that I’d like to send a copy of Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass to Ellen. I know she would love it. And of course, everyone loves Ellen!  Perhaps she’d be a perfect pirate for the next book — wouldn’t that be the greatest!

Give me a call, Ellen.  Let’s talk!

It has been a long time since a really good adventure story for teen girls has hit the market. This one is everything a good story should be with great characters, and a very easy to follow style that is hard to put down. With every turn of the page, there are interesting developments, as Sarafina tries to make her way in the unfamiliar world of the early 18th Century that she has been somehow transported into by an antique spyglass. She crosses paths with many interesting people, including some historic personages in the form of cutthroat pirates that she has to deal with. There is excitement, danger, and humorous incidents depicted in the story as Sarafina moves through the world of hardened scalawags and survives by her wits. Book 2 will continue the adventures as Sarafina experiences life on the high seas as a pirate herself while she tries to return to her own time period.

I loved it. The way Jaye captured the imagination of a young girl with a simple spyglass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome story — kept you wanting not to put it down! I recommend this for anyone that has a young girl. Why? Girls have so few heroines they can look up to. Sarafina, gives us just that ! I sure hope Sarafina goes on many awesome adventures with her awesome spyglass !!!!!!!!!!!!! I think every girl young and old will love this girl’s adventure ! I love how she started in the now. Sarafina, does have to watch her words as she speaks. Which makes her very interesting to whoever is reading about her. She does meet some dears as well as few savery charactors. Best of luck to JAYE HELM she makes the reader want MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Great read for all ages! Excitement, adventure and pirates too, who could ask for more!

Format: Paperback

I bought my Nook copy of this book for my granddaughter and am so happy I did. This is a swarthy, fun story about a young girl who is swept back into the 18th-century through a magical spyglass. Her adventures begin in Beaufort, North Carolina. But that is only the beginning for Sarafina who finds herself suddenly enmeshed in the nautical adventures of the seaport town and eventually on board a pirate ship. Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass is a great middle-reader book for youth who love adventure, mystery and pirates!

Format: Paperback

We met the author in Beaufort NC at the annual Pirate Festival and bought the book for my 8 year old daughter.

She instantly fell in love with the book and character and now is asking for more books by Ms Helm.

I am so happy!  Lots and lots of good comments and several 5-Star reviews have been happening! People are still asking for autographed copies of the book!  I am just so excited that people are enjoying the story.

That was my intention all along. Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass has been a joy for me to write since the beginning. I could see this young girl on many adventures and my deep interest in Pirates made a good combination.

Plus, I also go to Pirate Festivals all over, dressed in authentic pirate attire to entertain and educate the crowd.

I hope to find Sarafina and the Pirate’s Spyglass on many bookshelves in lots of stores soon! It’s already made it to two in Beaufort, North Carolina and I’m going to work hard to see it in more stores across the U.S. Thanks to everyone for your support.

Sarafina and the Pirate's Spyglass. The first in the Sarafina series by author Jaye Helm.

This is a picture of my set up.

I did it! My little hands were getting sore from writing so many autographs, but I loved every minute of it! I even did a story reading out of my book and the kids actually stayed and were intrigued. It was all so exciting to me, a little nervous at first, but then I had fun with it! It was done at the Beaufort Pirate Invasion in North Carolina inside the little gift shop. The ladies that worked there said that I sold the most books that had ever been sold in a book signing there.  The Old Beaufort Shop now carries my book in their gift shop. And to top it off, I had another store that also wants to sell my books, called the Scuttlebuck in Beaufort, North Carolina. Now I can’t wait for Book TWO!  The second book in the Sarafina series should be out early in 2016.
